Collection Events: Transfer Station Support

Who We Are

At Furniture Repair Bank, we are reducing the climate impact of furniture waste by promoting the circular economy of repair and redesign. We empower individuals and build a resilient community by teaching repair and refinishing skills to volunteers, talents that are less frequently passed down through the generations in our increasingly disposable economy. Our volunteers and donors learn that worn or broken furniture does not have to be destined for a landfill. Once restored to like-new condition, the items are gifted to community members in need, such as domestic violence survivors, refugees, young adults aging out of foster care, and the formerly unhoused.

What We Do

We conduct collection events at the North and South Transfer Stations in Seattle three times per month to divert usable furniture away from the landfill. Volunteer support is needed at these events to speak with customers who are bringing items to the transfer station, unload the furniture from their vehicles, and load it into our truck at the end of the day.

Sign up with a friend and spend a couple of hours hanging out while also saving usable furniture from an untimely end in the landfill!
